Welcome to the Don's Digital Sound Archive

Acoustic and electric transfer recording sessions: Digitization using original playback equipment

Here you will find an archive of digitized sound files from original recordings in my collections.  Most of the files are in the process of digital restoration.  Some are raw recordings, while others have some digital effects applied to "clean up" the sound.  In most cases, these are works-in-progress.  The mission of this project is to preserve fragile vintage or antique recordings so that they may be saved from their inevitable demise - and to allow a younger, digital audience to appreciate the art and history behind my collection.  I will post additional information on how I play and digitize different types of recordings at a later time.

MissionOfRainbowRecords-HomerRodeheaver.mp3

Homer Rodeheaver (1880 – 1955) was an American evangelist, music director, music publisher, composer of gospel songs, and pioneer in the recording of sacred music. He began recording for Victor records in 1913 as a trombonist then created his own record company called Rainbow Records in 1920 to focus exclusively on sacred recordings that larger labels didn't want to record.  This rare, spoken word recording describes his mission.
